The Living Computer

It’s the worlds first living computer. Scientists have constructed computer out of brain material. So far they’ve taught it how to fly airplanes. Sounds like the first step in making Cylons and completing the circle of time. But seriously though it’s amazing, and has crazy implications. If we’re making computers out of brain then I think true artificial intelligence is on the way. Plus this is organic material that interfaces with silicon, kind of like the Borg. Science just keeps becoming more and more like scifi.

A Merry Thanksgiving to You

Thanksgiving was an ancient American custom practiced until the mid-21 century. The purpose was to celebrate the incredible abundance and good fortune Americans had when compared to much of the world. The Americans celebrated their good fortune by gorging themselves on food, most notably the caracas of a dead bird known as a “turkey,” and a cake made from the innards of a large orange gourd.

Before the feast they would enjoy a parade, viewed on a hypno-box, in which giant facsimiles of idols from their capitalist religion (including the infamous deity Garfield, legendary for destroying the beautiful city of Lasagna) would be floated through the great city of New York. The parade was held in honor of one the highest capitalist powers, a god known as Macys. Macys was quite revered in ancient America, but she was a fading star. Shortly after the turn of the 21 century American religion started to shift towards monotheism. The new all-powerful god (“the one who was and who is and who is to come”) was known as Walmart. Walmart’s influence soon spread throughout the globe leading to a new era of religious warfare in which the heathens were brutally tortured and killed, and the believers were always treated to the lowest prices.

God is Dead, Love, One…

Why is it that most older religions are polytheistic and most newer religions are monotheistic? Could it be the collective unconscious slowly moving towards the concept of the unity of everything? In the past most people believed in many gods, now most people believe in one god. I think pantheism is probably next. That’s just taking the concept of god to a whole new level. Of course this isn’t a new idea, but it’s certainly not mainstream.

In a slightly related topic, I recently read a great short story by Isaac Asimov called The Last Question. You should check it out because it’s really good, he’s a very clever person and he describes the cosmic evolution of humanity brilliantly. It leaves me with the question: is our purpose here to create god?

hey kid, draw a parrot

I was recalling my earliest memories and stumbled upon something. The first clear memory I have coincides with the first time I had to make the choice. It includes me and my mother, and we went to quante single story building. Inside I was greated like I belonged there even though I knew not where I was. The only validating feature of the situation was my mother. A very nice lady seats me and my mother at a table and continues to instruct us on how to draw a parrot. We drew a pretty spectacular parrot and then my mother got up to go to the bathroom. I continued to work on the parrot, and then wondered where my mother could be. She didn’t come back. As you might have guessed, this was my intoduction to the institution of education.
I had a choice. I could have ripped up the parrot and stormed out of the door, but I decided to transfer my trust from my mother to the replacement with only a small internal struggle. It’s the day I conformed.

Go Ahead, Cut My Arm Off

Scientists have created mice that can regenerate organs and amputated limbs. They can regenerate everything but the brain apparently. I suppose this could be the future of humans. Now I hear you asking, “But professor, I’ve already been built (so to speak) so surely I can’t benefit from this technique?” Wrong! By injecting fetal liver cells from the new and improved mice into plain old mice the plain old mice gained the same abilities. And the genes that are in charge of organ regeneration exist in humans as well. I wonder how long before you can go to the doctor and get an injection that’ll give you this ability. War, car crashes, sports, and reality TV will never be the same.

Watch two poor people cut their own limbs off one by one, the first one to stop is the Chicken! Wednesdays on FOX
