America the Beautiful

Last night, while sipping on my $6 gin and tonic standing in a night club I had just paid $25 to get into, I felt compelled to text to google “define farce.” Later that evening, when I heard a techno song that sampled Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, I was compelled to text to google “define bastardization.” And even later that night, when a drunken hispanic girl told me I had a nice face, I felt good about myself.

Some news you may not have heard

So it has recently been reported by the BBC that the US oil industry had come up with a comprehensive plan for iraq. A 323 page plan was created detailing what to do with Iraqi oil. Why is it that US oil executives are planing what to do with a (at the time) sovereign nation’s oil reserves?

I highly recommend watching the 5/15 episode of Democracy Now for Greg Palast’s interview for his new book Armed madhouse. As well as a comprehensive report on the Darfur crisis. It is being labeled as the worst humanitarian crisis in the history of the world. Why isn’t this on the top of the US list for foreign policy?

Why is the BBC the only respectable national news organization for US news?

What is happening to the press in the United States?

What the fuck!

Even more everything

All of existence is non-simultaneously apprehended interacting processing.

All of existence is infinite regression.

All of existence is.

Infinity.

Therefore…
All of non-existence is not? Or is it?

Does Justice exist?

Is the universe justified?

According to most theology the world is only justified if it is seen as right in the eyes of God.

But what if the universe is inherently justified in itself? How then could we say that certain things in a justified universe were un-just? Can certain objects of a unified “good” whole be “bad”? no they must all have equal weight in the whole since the whole cannot exist without them. And since the whole is justified then nothing contained within the whole can be distinguished as un-just.

So how can the universe be justified?

It seems that things that happen within the world are unjustified, “evil” BAD. So since these things exist can’t we conclude that the universe is inherently unjustified? and that as a cause everything within the universe is unjustified? So then why does the universe exist?

It seems that a universe that has no justification should have no reason to exist.

These are all interesting problems that God easily solves. This is why many people perceive God as too easy an answer and dismiss the idea of theology. I’ll even admit to doing this myself but only because I like asking these questions too much. And believing in God obviously doesn’t allow you to ask these questions… Because God hates people who think and rains down justice on those who try.

Fundamental Attribution Error

At the risk of sounding like an anti-semite. Was Hitler really that bad of a guy?
We’ve all heard the stories about concentration camps and mass murders, which are attributed to Hitler’s hatred and bigotry, but could Hitler of been a victim of his envirornment? Shouldn’t we try to avoid demonizing Hitler and really take a look at all the factors that went into his decisions in context?
In “War and Peace”, Tolstoy reveals his theory of history and goes to great lengths to show that Napoleon had no greater of an influence over France’s Empire than anyone else in the entire movement. There were millions of people involved from the homefront to the battle field that seem to play a lesser role than the emperor, but who in Tolstoy’s opinion were just as important to the overall movement as Napoleon himself.
Obviously Napoleon’s role was more notable and well known than any of the other player’s, but he was only at the top because the movement needed him there. A million different circumstances went into his takeover, and Napoleon happened to be at the right time and place for all of them. In other words, he did not independently rise to power and propell the movement, but instead he rose to power because the movement required it of him. The same is true of eveyone else in the movement. They were only in the positions they occupied because they alone were best suited to fill that role. Napolean had the history and background to make him the perfect emperor for the time and place.
Could not the same thing be said about Hitler? There is no doubt that there was evil at the heart of the movement, but should Hitler really be made the scapegoat for what millions of people had a hand in?
I’d love to hear what other people think of this, so don’t be afraid to speak your mind.
