Watching Bush

Is it really the president’s job to do what he thinks is right?
Or is it his job to do what the majority of the country wants him to do?
A president who doesn’t listen because he’s “doing what’s right” is a bad president.

Have You Ever Been Experienced?

Human beings experience. Perhaps we are just very complex computers, but like, when I’m listening to music I hear the music. I don’t interpolate the music, I hear it. On a subconscious level I suppose I’m just collating and interpreting information, but it comes across as experience. Though, maybe that’s what experience is. Maybe that’s what computers feel. Or what computers will feel as they get more sophisticated. Humans definitely manipulate and interpret information, but it’s realized experientially. Why do we have that sense of separation from the universe when we are so obviously a part of it?

God is Dead, Love, One…

Why is it that most older religions are polytheistic and most newer religions are monotheistic? Could it be the collective unconscious slowly moving towards the concept of the unity of everything? In the past most people believed in many gods, now most people believe in one god. I think pantheism is probably next. That’s just taking the concept of god to a whole new level. Of course this isn’t a new idea, but it’s certainly not mainstream.

In a slightly related topic, I recently read a great short story by Isaac Asimov called The Last Question. You should check it out because it’s really good, he’s a very clever person and he describes the cosmic evolution of humanity brilliantly. It leaves me with the question: is our purpose here to create god?

Weed Makes You Smarter

A new study has found that frequent pot use may in fact promote brain cell growth in the hippocampus. This should be great news for all potheads who have assumed they’ve been hurting their brains all these years, they’re actually getting smarter. How long is the government going to keep this natural smart drug illegal? Goddamn fascists. I’d get up and do something about it if I wasn’t so stoned.

Does Random Really Exist?

I’m fascinated by the idea that although anything can happen, only one thing does happen. That reeks of fate to me. Sure, at the time all the events that occurred before today seemed totally random, but now they are fact. It was an incredible improbability that I was born the person I am. Uncountable amounts of random occurrences had to happen for me, or you for that matter, to exist. Yet, they happened; here I am. From this point my existence seems like a forgone conclusion. So does the American revolution, WWII, 9/11, etc. Were these really chance events? Can we prove that it could have happened any other way? I’m actually asking you these questions. I’m unsure of the answers and other people’s thoughts would be much appreciated.
