SXE People Piss Me Off

I have always disagreed with the Straight Edge philosophy. I’ve thought about it, and I can understand why they believe it. It makes sense in a way, be unfettered, don’t have your mind clouded with chemicals. And it is true that drugs can have detrimental effects in people’s lives. However I don’t believe that is a reason to avoid them completely.

Drugs are a part of this reality. They grow upon this earth, and when you ingest them they don’t kill you, they give you ideas. (Here I’m talking about “natural” drugs such as marijuana, shrooms, or DMT). I don’t believe that people should simply ignore something that is naturally a part of life on this planet as if it’s the devil. Why close yourself off to new experiences? Because they are harmful? It seems to me that the harmful use of drugs are the exception and not the rule, and that the harm comes from irresponsible or excessive use. Drugs certainly aren’t intrinsically harmful. And when are SXE people going to realize that everything they put into their bodies contains chemicals that alter their minds? Oh they’ll eat portobello mushrooms but not psilocybin mushrooms. Well what’s the difference between them? Both were created by natural evolution (or intelligent design, or both), both can be found growing in the wild, and animals eat both of them. Well the government designated one of them as an illegal substance, so naturally those SXE counterculture rebels wont touch them. Fight the power noobs!

The worst part about SXE is it seems to go hand in hand with open-minded liberal theory, but they’re so closed-minded. Everyone they disagree with is just wrong, or a fascist. And to them, people who do drugs are idiots with nothing worthwhile to say. I’ll bet SXE people take plenty of prescription drugs though (to me that seems a tad hypocritical). Where does one draw the line between a “good” drug and a “bad” drug?

I don’t want this to sound too much like an angry rant, so let me just say that I have met plenty of good natured intelligent straight edge people. But I’ve also met a lot who are just completely insane assholes. It is the latter type I am deriding, although I do disagree with the philosophy in general. If anyone disagrees with something I’ve said here, I invite you to leave a comment. I always welcome a good discussion.

Download Everything

I’m done with copyrights. I know, artists need to be compensated for their works yadda yadda yadda, but that’s not even what it’s about anymore. For one thing, they last like 120 years. That’s unfairly long, by then the content creator will most definitely be dead for a long time. Whatever happened to public domain?

As we move into the digital age copyrights will inevitably die. With faster internet connections and bigger hard drives it’s only going to get easier to share information. Total sharing of information is the way of the future and copyrights are holding us back. It’s time that humanity starts focusing on greater objectives than writing a hit song and making a lot of money. The free flow of information is beneficial to all and it’s going to happen not matter how much copyright holders bitch and moan.

Will this new era usher in a change of the status quo? Of course it will, but that’s not a bad thing. Money is a meaningless symbol that confuses the fuck out of people. It puts artificial value on things. It misdirects people away from their true value. The owning of information is an antiquated idea, we should have left it in the 20th century where it belongs. This in the century of free information, of expanding horizons. Technology and the human desire to not pay for things will force it upon us weather we like it or not.

Oh, and don’t republish this article lest I sue your ass! I needs me some monies, the Professor has needs!

Blasphemy

I AM GOD

A simple, seemingly arrogant, blasphemous statement. Yet while most religions categorize it as such it is exactly what they want you to believe. Many are taught that God is an omnipresent, omniscient being whose “noodly appendage” (at least for Pastafarians) has a hand in all things. So why then, am I not God? Are I not A part of God?

The reason this statement seems so offensive is that everyone thinks in terms of their own personal self and the personal selves of others as separate and totally different when in reality we all are, on some fundamental level, absolutely the same. The connections that we encounter on a daily basis seem so flimsy except in occasions of true friendship, and love and so we dismiss them often times as unimportant compared to a relationship to God. It is these earthly connections however that are the most important to developing a spirituality. Certainly a relationship to higher being sounds appealing but it is what we encounter in life that will truly define us as people.

STOP and THINK! No wait, DON’T stop and DON’T think.

Is “following your intuition the ability to harmonize your reason and your morality?
Most people unconsciously give priority to one or the other in cases where the two necessarily conflict. In case like this, humans are capable of solving the dilemma using opposing solutions, which can both be deemed “right. This may be good enough for some people, but not me. Humans can operate on a higher principle. I would tell you what that was, except it is simply unintelligible. At this point in human evolution, we do not have such experience or knowledge of this faculty that can translate into something we would call concrete. Although it is ill defined, people use it all the time in all cultures. It’s how people react when they aren’t thinking about it. It’s above the reach of your thoughts, unfortunately our thoughts still have control over our bodies, and we do not rely entirely on this faculty labeled intuition.
For example, I think Jesus was someone who could stop his mind and live on higher-level circuits. I think he was labeled God because he did in fact live on a higher level than the average human, but he alone did not hold the potential. He taught his skills to his prophets, and they went around performing similar miracles. I think all humans are God, or at least have godly potential. Jesus happened to be better suited than the average man is.
So next time you have a tough decision to make, just make it for once without trying to work it out in your head ahead of time.
