It comes down to a very general matter of outlook in a situation like this. Is everything going to be okay? or are things getting worse? Optimism vs. Pessimism. Being a general optimist, I would claim that this can be decided by choice, it is up to the individual to determine their outlook and to seek out support for it, to validate their
beliefs and existence. Others may say it is out of our hands, and whatever happens happens. If you’re a serious smoker for most of your life, as my grandfather was, you have a significantly higher chance of getting cancer and dying because of it. Now, is it fate, is it that his time was just up and this was how his life was supposed to end? Or had he not smoked, would he have continued to live into his 90’s and possibly later? These questions are trivial.

Here’s my point- The content of this blog is important, because it deals with the topics of metaphysics, mysticism, religion, and “truth”, and in this day and age, or however you’d describe it, things are very hard to decipher. But ultimately, when a situation like this arises, or even worse, these questions go out the window. Ultimately, if you are reading this then you are alive. If you are alive, you have beaten the immeasurable odds weighing against your existence- however many thousands, tens of thousands, or millions of other sperm were trying to fertilize that egg- and that’s only scratching the surface. To be alive is to be extremely fortunate, for, as the laws of entropy state, the most probable universe is one of total disorganization, making the building blocks of basic life, let alone the complex physiology of humans, improbable.

My grandfather lived a great life in the face of many hardships that I will never encounter, and he had the greatest influence on me of all in my family, that being impressing upon me the importance of music, which led me to become a musician myself. I’m sad that he’s dead, but it really goes beyond sadness. What I am feeling right now cannot be written. Our language certainly has many limits.
