Information Age or Stinkformation Age?
Isn’t it disconcerting being a child of the information age?
What are we gathering information for? For the succeeding generation to compile all of our hard work and reap all of its benefits?
Will we even be able to understand the product of all our hard work?
It is my impression that members of each new generation are raised in such a way as to separate themselves from the proceeding generation. Members of new generations are empowered with tools that were created by, yet un-utilized by their parent generations. Unfortunately only children seem entirely capable of completely adapting to new advancments, leaving adults and even teen-agers stuckin outdated ways, much like the computer you bought last year.
So the paramount of any generation’s efforts are only to install new ways of thinking into their children’s generation. We will never be able to reprogram our minds to actually live by our discoveries. As great as it sounds to be “another link in the great chain”, gathering information for our children sounds very unsatisfying. I think something along the lines of the Age of Becoming has a better ring to it.
I want to grasp my children’s tools, and I want my parents to grasp mine. I want to create something that will stand the test of time, and not only unite me with the rest of my generation, but unite all past and future generations.
